Joining a Greek Organization at Brenau
Brenau University Greek Life is open to students enrolled full-time in undergraduate programs at the Women's College on the historic Gainesville campus. Membership is open to residential and commuter students.
There are 7 sororities represented on our campus, and they are governed by 2 councils: Panhellenic and NPHC.
Alpha Chi Omega, Alpha Delta Pi, Alpha Gamma Delta, Delta Delta Delta, Phi Mu, and Zeta Tau Alpha are Panhellenic sororities. Freshman students are eligible to join Panhellenic sororities as soon as recruitment begins during the fall semester. We do not have a "rush week" on our campus, but Panhellenic will host events at the beginning of the fall semester to get potential new members information and help guide them to making an informed decision. Throughout the school year, Panhellenic sororities will host recruitment events and offer "bids"- which are invitations to join the sorority. Recruitment events will be advertised on the calendar, on social media, on flyers, and in the student newsletter "This Week at Brenau".
Alpha Kappa Alpha, Sorority Inc. is a NPHC sorority. Alpha Kappa Alpha, Sorority Inc. requires students to have earned 12 credit hours prior to consideration for membership. NPHC sororities host membership recruitment independently. Flyers will be posted around campus announcing the interest meeting along with instructions on submitting an application for consideration.
The Benefits of Membership
Greek Life membership requires an investment of time and finances, but it comes with lifelong benefits that you cannot obtain from any other experience. As a member of a Greek organization, you will gain the opportunities to develop as a leader, serve your community and philanthropic causes, qualify for academic scholarships to further your education, obtain resources and training for a variety of life skills, and build a network of mentorship and support. The lifelong friendships that grow out of these experiences will continue with you for the rest of your life.
You will also be joining a close-knit Greek community on campus. Greek women at Brenau enjoy socials, formals, service projects, and programs together to build unity and friendship.
The Requirements of Membership
Anti-Hazing Policy
“Hazing is defined as any action or situation with or without consent that recklessly, intentionally or unintentionally endangers the mental or physical health or safety of a student, or creates risk of injury, or causes discomfort, embarrassment, harassment or ridicule or that willfully destroys or removes public or private property”
Hazing is forbidden by all of our Panhellenic and NPHC organizations and by Brenau University. It is detrimental to our values and sisterhood. If you feel uncomfortable in a situation, you should report it to the Coordinator of Campus Communities or Campus Security. Members, new members, and alumni will be held accountable for their actions.

The Requirements of Membership
- As a member, you will be required to pay dues. The financial requirements vary with each organization, so be sure to inquire about the financial commitment for all organizations you are interested in joining. On average, you can expect to pay around $650 - $900 your first semester (includes one time initiation fees) and $400- $550 in following semesters. Most organizations have installment plans to make it easier to fit into your budget.
- Membership is a time commitment. You will be expected to attend weekly meetings and events. Many Brenau students enjoy Greek membership along with being athletes, student leaders, and employees. It is possible to fit into a busy schedule and is a great way to master time management!
- Each organization sets academic standards to join and remain an active member. Obtaining your degree is the top priority of your college experience, and your organization will help push you to reach your goals!
- Each organization does require members to follow rules and live up to standards and values. Failure to do so can result in sanctions or loss of membership.
