A Message from the President:
Zeta Tau Alpha was created to make a difference in the lives of our members by developing the potential of each individual. Our sisters foster strength of character by emphasizing leadership development, service to others, academic achievement and continued personal growth, with a commitment to friendship and the future. The object of our organization is to intensify friendship, promote happiness among its members, and to build a nobler and purer womanhood in the world. The first chapter of Zeta Tau Alpha was founded on October 15, 1898, at Virginia State Female Normal School (now Longwood University) in Farmville, Virginia. Zeta Tau Alpha is a member of the National Panhellenic Conference, which consists of 26 groups--ZTA being the second largest with more than 290,000 initiated members, 226 active collegiate chapters, and 238 active alumnae chapters. The Omicron chapter of Zeta Tau Alpha was founded at Brenau University on January 14, 1911. We are the 16th chapter in ZTA’s chain of chapters. This past January, we celebrated 111 years of Omicron sisterhood! Zeta Tau Alpha’s national philanthropy is breast cancer education and awareness. Breast cancer touches countless lives. In fact, one in eight women in the U.S. will be diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime. The Zeta Tau Alpha Foundation (ZTAF) was established in 1954, and leads our efforts in breast cancer education and awareness, provides more than $700,000 in scholarships annually, and sponsors educational and leadership opportunities for our members and others. Think Pink® is a registered trademark of Zeta Tau Alpha, and has represented our breast cancer education and awareness efforts since 2004. We’ve been “thinking pink” for 25 years and have distributed more than 19 million ZTA Think Pink ribbons to generate breast cancer awareness, to support breast cancer survivors, and to honor those who have lost their lives to the disease. Through Zeta Tau Alpha’s partnerships with the American Cancer Society®, National Football League, and Bright Pink®, zetas have provided assistance with survivor recognition at nearly 300 Making Strides walks held in communities across the country, worked with all 32 NFL teams to spread awareness to over 5 million football fans across the country, and educate, equip, & empower our members to be advocates for their own breast and ovarian health. The fight against breast cancer is more than a ribbon--it’s our mission. ZTA is very active on Brenau’s campus. Many sisters are Brenau Scholars, athletes, actors, artists, dancers, and leaders. Our sisters aspire to serve our campus and community by joining various campus organizations and volunteering our time to local organizations. Service is integral of the ZTA experience. The Creed of Zeta Tau Alpha asks members to “think in terms of all mankind and our service in the world.” We serve our communities in numerous ways, including volunteering and fundraising at Dipping Dots Fair Kiosks, making meals for families who need it at local food kitchens, or putting together care baskets for breast cancer patients and survivors. Zetas strive to make a positive difference through serving others. However, we wouldn’t be able to do all the wonderful things we do if it were not for our strong sisterhood. Even though we have sisters with very different backgrounds we celebrate our differences and pride ourselves in the noble values that we all share. We all have the strong desire to see our sisters thrive and shine. The sisters of Zeta Tau Alpha are thrilled to welcome you to Brenau University and cannot wait to meet you!” |
